31 May 2009 | News

Co-Ed Division 2 took centre stage in last weeks softball programme with their divisional knockout being played throughout the day on Saturday.

Mercator emerged victorious with a comfortable victory over Core Focus Rookies in the final winning 16-5. The very windy conditions caused more of a problem for the Rookies pitcher with Mercator’s Gary Le Page pitching superbly throughout the game. Mercator scored 9 runs in the 2nd innings to set up a good base to record the victory. This trophy is Mercators first ever softball silverware in 5 years of playing and special mention must go to new team Generali Panthers who made Mercator work hard in the 1st round just scraping through 16-10.

In the Co-Ed Division 2 league there were wins for Bulldogs and Rookies over Richmond Rogues and Specsavers respectively. Rookies and Specsavers had a very close game throughout with Rookies coming from behind in the last innings to secure a 22-20 victory.

NRG Rangers received a walkover from Pirates in the only Co-Ed Division 1 game last week.

In the Men’s league Central Electrics maintain top spot in the league with a convincing win over Titans. Ryan De Jersey, Jon Marley and Dan Marriott all scoring home runs in a 23-3 victory.

Reminder to all school children in years 7 and above Softball Development Officer Sam Stables is holding training sessions for anybody who wants to play softball. These sessions take place at Beau Sejour Park on Mondays throughout the summer.
