League Update – May 3rd
On paper NRG Rangers looked the stronger of the two teams when they came up against Ship and Crown in last weeks men slow pitch league but ship and Crown had other ideas. Ship and Crown only allowed their opponents to score 1 run in the first four innings and they had sent 6 players across the plate. Rangers staged a come back in the fifth innings by scoring 4 runs and then shutting out their opponents to reduce the deficit to one run.
That seemed to inspire Ship Crown who then shut Rangers out in the sixth innings and scored three runs of their own to make the score 9-5 going into the last innings.
Rangers only managed two runs in their last bat which meant Ship and Crown won the game with a bat in hand.
Co-Ed Division 1 saw the first clash of the season between the two newly promoted teams Arc Tech Panthers and Pirates. The game started slowly with very few runs scored until the 3rd innings when Panthers scored 7 to pirates 5 to lead 9-6.
Pirates scored the more consistently over the remaining innings but a good batting inning from Panthers in the fifth saw them push 5 runs across the plate and they went on to win the game 14-11. The remaining games between these two sides should be very evenly contested this season.
The only game from the Co-Ed division 2 saw the schoolboy team of Bulldogs take to the diamond for their 1st game against the more experienced team Mercator. Rod Sallis for Mercator was in fine form scoring 3 home runs and the excellent batting innings in the third for Mercator sealed the victory. Bulldogs can take a lot of positives from this game and as their batting improves they will be able to compete with the teams in their division.
