League Update – June 14th
The Bulldogs have landed! The schoolboy team pulled off their best win of the season by beating joint league leaders Core Focus Rookies in Co-Ed Division 2. Bulldogs made their intentions clear from the start by leading 5-0 at the end of the 2nd innings. Rookies fought back in the 5th innings scoring 4 runs after shutting out their opponents to lead 7-6. Scoring was even on both sides and at the end of 7 innings the score stood at 10-10 and therefore an extra innings was required. Bulldogs batted 1st and good base hitting and the added bonus of a couple of walks scored 8 runs putting pressure on their opposition. Rookies could not match the tally only scoring 1 run leaving Bulldogs as worthy winners.
The others games in this division saw comfortable victories for Mercator and Specsavers over Richmond Rogues and Generali Panthers respectively.
In Co-Ed Division 1 Tornados continued their good start to the season with a 13-5 victory over NRG Rangers. Consistent batting being the key factor in the Tornados victory, they only failed to score in the 6th innings.
Other Co-Ed Division 1 games both featured Pirates and unfortunately for them they finished on the losing side both times. Their first encounter was against NRG Rangers and Pirates were winning all the way through the game until the last innings when Rangers scored 6 runs and shut out their opponents to win 12-9.
ArcTech Panthers were Pirates other opponents last week and again Pirates led early on but Panthers scored 5 runs in the 4th innings to go on to claim the victory 15-10. Unfortunately for Pirates they had to play both games with only 9 players which meant an automatic out every time the missing player came up in the batting order. If they are able to increase their player numbers then their 1st victory is imminent.
All 3 men’s games last week should have involved Titans however they received a walkover from Norman Piette Blue Sox in their first scheduled game. The other games resulted in two defeats for Titans at the hands of Ship and Crown and NRG Rangers respectively.
