League Update – June 21st

21 June 2009 | News

In the Men’s Division it was a good week for Norman Piette Blue Sox with 2 wins and not such a good week for Central Electrics with 2 defeats.

In the game between these two sides Blue Sox started more aggressively by scoring 11 of their total 22 runs in the 1st innings. Centrals were then always playing catch up and they achieved their goal with the help of two home runs from Dave Gontier; they led 16-15 after 5 innings. Blue Sox overcame their drought of runs by scoring 7 in the sixth innings with the help of home runs from Dave Rihoy and Craig Le Prevost to secure the victory by 1 run, 22-21. This was a good game played in very damp conditions.

Blue Sox secured their 2nd victory of the week with a 25-16 win over Ship and Crown. The difference between the teams being the round trip tally; Ship and Crown didn’t manage to score any but Blue Sox recorded 7 home runs over the 7 innings with John Rihoy scoring 2.

In the final men’s game of the week NRG Rangers moved to the top of the division with a convincing win over Centrals. Robin Van Tonder added 2 more home runs to his season’s total to see his side to a 24-5 victory.

Norman Piette Blue Sox copied their Mens team with a good week in Co-Ed Division 1 recording 2 victories. They narrowly beat NRG Rangers 10-9 scoring the winning run in the last innings. Rangers will be kicking themselves with the narrow defeat as their opponents were playing with a player short. Blue Sox’s other victory came courtesy of a walkover over Pirates.

Tornados continued their excellent start to the 2009 season with a convincing win over ArcTech Panthers. Steady scoring reaped benefits for Tornados and they remain the only unbeaten team over all the divisions.

Co-Ed Division 2 has been split in half; the top 3 teams of Mercator, Core Focus Rookies and Specsavers have opened a healthy gap over the other 3 teams. The top 3 again recorded victories last week but credit must go to Bulldogs, Generali Panthers and Richmond Rogues who are all new teams and are improving with every game they play.
