League Update – July 26th
All the division leaders won vital games in last weeks softball programme and it looks like only Co-Ed Division 2 will go down to the wire.
NRG Rangers Men can clinch the Sportingbet Mens Title this Wednesday evening if they beat joint 2nd placed team Ship and Crown. Rangers scored a convincing 17-2 victory over Central Electrics with the help of a home run from Tom Stanley.
In the other Men’s game last week Norman Piette Blue Sox put themselves back in the running for the runners-up spot with a tight 18-16 victory over Ship and Crown. Blue Sox stormed into a 16-7 lead and managed to hold off a late recovery from their opponents.
Tornados looked as if they might lose their unbeaten record in Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 1 against ArcTech Panthers. Panthers led the game in the early innings as Tornados struggled with the bat. However, Tornados used their vast experience to push 12 runs across the plate in the last 2 innings to secure a 22-10 victory and now look certain to retain the silverware.
NRG Rangers have put themselves in with a chance of runners up spot in Co-Ed Division 1 with a 14-12 victory over Norman Piette Blue Sox. Rangers scored runs consistently and despite Marc Rihoy’s 3 home runs his team still finished on the losing side.
Specsavers and Bulldogs produced an entertaining game in Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 2. Specsavers ran out winners 19-15 with the help of 2 home runs from Danny Penny. Jack Austin scored a home run for the losers and the improvement in Bulldogs play was evident to see.
Mercator comfortably beat a below strength Richmond Rogues team in the other Co-Ed Division 2 game.
This week many of the Division 2 teams get the opportunity to raise their games against 1st Division opposition in the All Division Knock Out. The final is scheduled for 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
