In last week’s softball games the Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 1 Knock-Out took centre stage. Unfortunately Arc Tech Panthers had to withdraw with players committed to the Island Games which meant only 2 semis and a final was played.

NRG Rangers booked their place in the final with a relatively easy win over Pirates 20-2. Tornados had a similar game against Norman Piette Blue Sox and came through comfortably 20-4.

The final was again a very one sided affair Tornados playing a very solid game and scoring in every bat recorded a 20-1 victory in 5 innings. This means Tornados pick up their 2nd piece of silverware this season and will be hoping their form continues in the remainder of their league games.

Mercator won the battle of the top two teams in Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 2. Core Focus Rookies were leading for most of game until Mercator’s Ross Wheeler scored a home run in the 5th innings to help his team to 4 runs to tie the scores at 8-8. Rookies scored 4 more runs of their own to lead 12-10 before Mercator’s last bat. Mercator rose to the pressure and a solid hit by Ann Carre scored the necessary runs to win the game.

At the other end of the division Generali Panthers and Richmond Rogues produced an epic battle lasting 2 ½ hours, and finishing in near darkness, with Generali just edging it 35-33. Scott Falla from Richmond and Micheal Blazina from Generali both scoring 3 home runs apiece.

In the Sportingbet Mens Division NRG Rangers took a step closer to winning the division with 2 good victories. Their 1st was a 17-4 win over Ship and Crown and they followed this up with an 18-4 win over Norman Piette Blue Sox. These victories leave Rangers 6 points clear at the top of the division.
