League Update – August 23rd

Tornados added yet another piece of silverware to their total by beating NRG Rangers 14-7 in the Sportingbet Co-Ed All Division Knockout Final. Rangers were scoring each innings but only solitary runs and Tornados scored 7 runs in the first 2 innings with the help of a home run from Sally Le Noury to set them up for victory. Tornados remained solid and behind consistent pitching from Ben Youlton never looked like loosing. Paul Vaudin hit a fine line drive home run for Rangers but Tornados always kept a healthy lead and won the game 14-7.

2 re-arranged Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 1 games were played last week and both involved NRG Rangers. Their 1st outing was against league champions Tornados and Rangers pushed them all game opening up a 10-2 lead early on. Tornados started closing the gap with the help of 2 home runs from Glen Cortez they led 16-12 after 5 innings. Sophie Warren hit a fine home run for Rangers to close the gap to just 1 run but they didn’t manage to score again and Tornados won the game 16-15.

ArcTech Panthers inflicted NRG Rangers their 2nd league defeat in as many days and the win ensured Panthers finished as Division 1 runners up in their 1st season in the higher division.

In the only game in Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 2 Core Focus Rookies easily beat Richmond Rogues 21-1 with the help of 2 home runs from Dave Mahoney. This victory for Rookies and with Mercator being given their game means these two teams will meet in a play off to decide the league winners. The play off will take place on Tuesday 25th August at 6.30pm.
This weekend sees the Upton’s and Muratti’s being played against Jersey.

Saturday will see Mercator play Jersey’s PBS Flyers in the 2nd Division Upton at 12.00pm. At 2.00pm local team Tornados will play Dominion Niners from Jersey for the 1st Division Upton Trophy.

Sunday will be the turn of the Muratti squads to battle it out against Jersey. The ‘B’ Muratti will start at 12.00pm and will be followed by the ‘A’ Muratti at 2.00pm.
