NRG Rangers became the 1st team to win divisional silverware by becoming the Sportingbet Men’s champions for 2009. Rangers, with a convincing 26-4 victory over a 9 man Ship and Crown team, leave them as champions with 3 games still to play.

Marco Silvestri scored 3 home runs for the victors and he was ably assisted with 1 each from Rob Dewson and Trevor Crittell. Tom Sullivan scored a solitary home run for the losers.

In the other Men’s game Titans recorded their 1st victory this season with a tight 23-21 victory over Ship and Crown. Ship and Crown started the better of the two sides and were 10-1 up after 2 innings. Titans pushed 9 runs across the plate in the 4th innings to tie the game at 12-12. Titans then scored well in their next two bats to lead 23-17 going into the last innings. Titans batted 1st and failed to score leaving Ship and Crown requiring 7 runs to win the game; they had a valiant attempt but only managed 4 runs leaving Titans as the victors.

Tornados are now only 1 victory away from becoming the Sportingbet Co-Ed Division 1 champions. They beat Pirates 14-4 with a solid batting display but the only home run of the game was scored by Pirates Gary Inder.

The winner of the Sportingbet All Division Knockout is yet to be decided. Rain stopped play after the quarterfinal stages and the final stages of these games were played in atrocious conditions.

The top 4 1st division teams will contest the rearranged semi-finals but credit can go to some plucky performances from the 2nd division teams, notably Bulldogs who in their game against NRG Rangers were only losing 6-3 at the end of the 5th innings.

The semi-finals are now to be played on August 21st at 6.30pm with the final on Sunday 23rd August at midday.
