Upton/Muratti 2016 – 3 out of 4 for Guernsey

Last Saturday (September 10th) saw 3 out of 4 trophies come back to Guernsey in the Annual softball Murattis and Uptons.

Despite a plane delay in the morning all the teams arrived in time for the first game at Les Quennevais.  Drunken Duck Rangers B kicked off the day as they took on Jerseys CoreFocus Cubs and, as last season, it was the Jersey side that were the strongest and claimed the Second Division Upton beating a very youthful Rangers side 18 runs to 5.

Next up was the First Division Upton. Going into this game was Jersey’s unbeaten DMS Flyers who took on Guernsey’s NE Electric Rookies.  Expectations were high for a very close game but that was to not be the case – Rookies won the game comfortably with a 21-3 score line to win their first Upton trophy.

Following on from Rookies dominating performance was the B Team Muratti; this saw the Guernsey B Team bat and field exceptionally well (despite the wet conditions) to beat Jersey B Team 19 runs to 4.  This meant Guernsey B retain the trophy for the second year running.

By the time the final Muratti game came around Jersey were clinging to the hope that they could claim their first A Team Muratti trophy since 2010.  However, Guernsey’s fire power and determination was too much for them.

Guernsey A claimed their 6th Muratti win in a row with a final score of 30-11.
