National Men’s Slowpitch Championships 2014

Guernsey will once again be sending a men’s team to compete in the popular Single Sex National Championships. This year the BSF have has announced a record entry for its 2014 tournament. This year it is being held on the weekend of 12th & 13th July at Birmingham City University’s Moor Lane Sports Ground in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

All of the available places have been filled, and the tournament will break the previous record number of teams entered. The highest attendances have been when the tournament was played in Birmingham, supporting the BSF’s decision to move it from Farnham Park – where the Championship was played in 2013.

According to BSF Tournament Officer, Liz Graham, never before have so many places for the Single-Sex Nationals been filled so early in the season.

Guernsey’s Island Coach, Steve Mahy, has entered his selected Guernsey side into the higher level ‘competitive’ group and they will face some very strong opposition.

Guernsey has previously fared well in this competition displaying some good defensive play. With the standard expected to be of a high level again this year, Steve has concentrated on selecting an attacking side. Many of the squad have travelled to this championship before and they will know they will have to dig deep and play hard to ensure they progress throughout the tournament.
