GSA Division Two Co-Ed Softball Tournament – August 25th & 26th, 2018

This weekend sees the annual 2nd Division Co-Ed Softball Tournament taking place (a Recreational Division, 6 team Tournament).

The fixtures are done, the rules are written, the social venue is booked, and the weekend weather looks to be fairly decent (although you never know with our summers, so bring your brolly!)

The format the GSA has supplied is the same as the Co-Ed Open Tournaments that took place last year – it guarantees to be an exciting weekend of softball for all teams. However, we can only make this a successful weekend with your help so GET INVOLVED!

A few things to note…

• The long range weather forecast is looking good for the weekend (however, as mentioned earlier, you never know) so please come up to the park equipped. The games will still go ahead even in the rain.
• As we are on a strict time schedule we would ask that all teams “hustle” between innings to make sure the whole 50 minutes are utilized.
• The GSA Refreshment Van will be near the top pitch (manned by the 1st Division teams) with all proceeds going towards the GSA (click here for the Van Rota)
Could we please ask the team captains to collate numbers for the people interested in attending the presentation night which is at the Grande Rock Bistro for £15 per person. Sue Fish will need to give the venue a heads up by Thursday.

Finally…

Let’s play hard on and off the diamond!!

Vacant Committee Position – July 17th, 2018

The role of GSA Trophy Secretary is still vacant and needs to be filled before the end of the season.  This role can be shared so a group of people can help organise the trophies for the Annual Dinner & Dance and Presentation, which is to take place in October.  It doesn’t have to be just one person.

Click here for a description of the role.

Remember, if there is no Trophy Secretary there can be no end of season Presentation!

Men’s Champions target their 7th League title – April 19th

As we approach the end of April that could only mean one thing!

The 2018 Guernsey Softball Association slowpitch softball season is about to get underway, with teams now putting all that hard work during the pre-season to the test in what looks to be like an action packed season.

Friday 27th April at 6.30pm sees the start of the 2018 season with reigning Men’s champions Titans take on Sarnia Leadworks Tornadoes; with Titans looking to carry on with their winning ways in a campaign where they’ll look to claim their 7th title in the last 8 years.  While Sarnia Leadworks Tornadoes, playing in their maiden season in the Men’s Division, will look to cause an early shock and make their mark on the 2018 season.

Saturday afternoon kicks off with two match-ups in The Pony Inn’s Mixed Division 2 at 12 o’clock.  E&G Pirates will make their debut against Nerine, while on the bottom pitch last year’s runners-up Raptors look to take on First Names, who finished one place below them last season, in what is hotly tipped as the game of the day!

The other Division 2 clash will see Lock-in Hit Squad play Off the Wall Outlaws at 2 o’clock where both teams will be looking to improve on last season.

In The Pony Inn’s Mixed Division 1 we see two teams make their first division debuts when KJ Simon Tomahawks take on Tigers at 2 o’clock.  KJ Simon Tomahawks come into the league with a lot of experience & quality which could see them compete for the title this season; Tigers will be looking to avoid relegation and climb the table.

At 4 o’clock we see Drop the L Hornets take to the diamond as a Division 1 team for the first time, having been promoted after winning the Division 2 title last season, when they take on East Harbour Buccaneers.

Vacant Positions, GSA Committee – November 28th

Following the AGM which took place at Beau Sejour on November 27th, the following positions on the Committee remain vacant

GSA President (click here for Role description)

GSA Registration Secretary* (click here for a Role description)

Trophy Secretary

Pitch/Diamond Coordinator

All the Committee positions must be filled and in accordance with the GSA Constitution – Article V, Section C – the role of President needs to be filled ASAP.

* Executive Position

Note to all members:  it is worth remembering that without a President or a Registrations Secretary (or even a Trophy Secretary), there will be no softball for the coming season!
Please have a think and discuss with your team about how you could help the GSA continue promoting softball in Guernsey.
